Paul Donovan (businessman)

Paul Donovan is the CEO of the eircom Group plc in Ireland. He formerly worked for Vodafone as CEO Central Europe, Middle East, Asia Pacific and Affiliates of Vodafone Group, including Vodafone Ireland.

In May 2009 he was appointed as CEO of Eircom[1] in Ireland replacing Rex Comb, with a start date of 1 July, 2009. eircom Retail MD Cathal Magee had been acting CEO of eircom and was also considered for the position.

He is also a Non Executive Director of Millicom Cellular International, a leading emerging markets telecoms operator, who operate the Tigo brand of mobile operators.

In 2005, Donovan was appointed Chief Executive Officer for Other Vodafone Subsidiaries (OVS), comprising a number of Vodafone's operations including those in emerging markets. He joined Vodafone UK in 1999 as Managing Director - Commercial, and in 2001 was appointed CEO of Vodafone Ireland. In September 2008 it was announced that he would be leaving Vodafone the end of 2008, no reason was provided.

In 2004, he assumed the additional role of Global Director of Business Integration, leading One Vodafone, the Group's business transformation programme.

Donovan has more than 15 years experience in the telecommunications and IT industries, gained at Apple Computer as Marketing Director for the UK and Ireland, at BT as Head of Business Marketing and Director of On Line Services, at Cable and Wireless subsidiary One2One as Commercial Director, and as Chief Commercial Officer at Australian telecoms provider Optus Communications.

He began his career at the Mars Group, before becoming Marketing Director at Coca-Cola and Schweppes Beverages in 1989.
